How to Care for Your Sapphire Earrings

Sapphire earrings are a timeless classic look that never goes out of style. The sapphire gemstone symbolizes purity, loyalty, and trust, and can be passed down from mother to daughter.

To ensure that sapphire earrings stay beautiful and last for generations, here’s what you need to know about cleaning and caring for them.

Your sapphire earrings should be the last touch to your outfit to avoid the application of makeup, hairspray, lotion or perfume which could make the sapphire look cloudy. Also never swim or bathe while wearing sapphire earrings as the harsh chemicals in some shampoos, conditioners and chlorine in pools can damage the setting.

Whenever you wear your sapphire earrings, you should always clean them afterwards to keep them shiny and in good condition. All you need to do is pour a few drops of mild detergent in a bowl of lukewarm water and let the earrings sit in the soapy water for 10 – 20 minutes depending how dirty they are. You can also carefully use a soft bristled toothbrush to clean hard-to-reach areas such as underneath the stone or around the setting. Then just rinse your earrings off with warm water, and then dry with a soft cotton cloth.

Store your sapphire earrings in an individual pouch or a fabric lined jewelry box separated from other jewelry. Sapphires can easily scratch other stones and metals, or be scratched by any diamonds in your collection.
